THE EFFECT OF OPERATORR17;S CHARACTERISTICS OVER QUALITY DEFECTS IN SEWING DEPARTMENT IN THE APPAREL BUSINESS

Apparel is a labour-intensive industry. Therefore, operator is an important factor in apparel production. The aim of this study is establishing the effect of operator variety over quality defects in production. In this study, the effects of operator’s characteristics over defect rates in apparel during sewing stage were researched. Characteristics of operator which are researched in this study are gender, education level, age and experience. Only one model is searched in this study in order to fix characteristics of model. Defect daily rates of each operators are established. Then, statistical signifance is researched between operator characteristics and defect rates. Data is analized with a statistic program SPSS 10. Oneway Anova, T- test, Duncan, Cross Table and Correlation methods were used for statistical analysis. Effects of operators and operator’s education level over quality defects is researched by Oneway Anova and operator groups which have different education level are determined according as quality defect rates by Duncan. T-test and Cross Table are used to analyse relation between operator’s education level and gender. Correlation method is used to analyse relation between defect rates and operator’s experience, in addition operator’s age. Finally, it is established that gender effects the quality defects. It is determined that operator’s education level, age and experience do not effect quality defects in apparel production.
